Top 5 jobs of the future (and why I love this list)
Jul 11, 2024
The future of work is evolving rapidly, and Open Universities has highlighted five key roles that are set to shape the workforce:

๐๏ธ VR Developer
๐ณ Sustainability Consultant
๐ต๐ปโ๏ธ Ethical Hacker
๐ฆ Personal Branding Consultant
I'm most interested in the last one, obviously! And not at all surprised!
It's why I moved away from running a traditional and award-wining full-service marketing agency for 20 years, to helping people position themselves authentically in a tech-saturated world.
I have been calling this loudly for several years now. And it so happens I just wrote the book on it!
A report by the RSA Future Work Centre (Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) points out that personal brand consultants will become critical as automation takes over sections of the workforce, and emotional skills become highly sought after.
Why?
Because everyone has a personal brand - whether you know it or not, whether you like it or not.
How you distinguish and build connection in the era of tech, automation and widespread copying - is where the gold lies.
A lot of people have a skewed idea of personal branding.
It’s not just about being visible and getting noticed.
It's about intentionally communicating "who you are" and the "impact of your work" in a way that makes people WANT to connect with you - whether digital, virtual, offline or IRL.
And knowing how to make that benefit your job or cause or business.
But in a very human way - so you can go do the distance (not just a big sprint and then you collapse from exhaustion because you can't keep it going!)
It's the theme of my book "Marketing Me: Take Charge of Your Personal Brand and Make Your Mark on the World"
I train people all around the world on how to do it efficiently and easefully.
And speak on it at conferences and for organisations.
If you're a leader of people, learning how to encourage and support them in this and give them tools and skills is vital if you want to attract and retain top-tier talent in the next few years!
As people wise up to the need to build their brand it'll become a non-negotiable. And a tremendous brand asset to your organisation if you do it the right way!
I love helping people short-cut that process.
Trying to do it on your own is like trying to look at a picture from the inside of the frame. It'll do your head in.
Even knowing marketing isn't enough - because it's more than technical know-how. (I routinely help a LOT of marketers with this (I run the personal branding training for professional marketers in the Australian Marketing Institute too), as I get it! I used to be someone who struggled to so I know what it's like to be able to do great marketing for others but feel stuck when it comes to doing it for yourself!)
It's about confidence first and foremost.
It's about being able to tap into your X-factor, your secret sauce, and build simple systems to build your personal brand strategically and consistently over the long haul.
Right now CONSISTENCY is your trump card.
And influential positioning yours for the taking if you're prepared to take baby steps (one hour a week) over a significant time period.
You can position as pre-eminent in your field - as you are clear, confident and consistent.
Get people coming up to YOU because they feel like they know you and have a connection with you.
Saying yes, more often and more easily.
If you want help positioning yourself and building your brand I have my Marketing Me Experience kicking off in a few weeks.
Where I lead you through APPLYING (not just knowing!) the key principles of my book and change the way you see branding, marketing and becoming more known.
And right now while the economy is in flux is a perfect time to be doing it. So you're already positioned when there's an uptick and aren't starting from ground zero.
