Finding your "connection factor"
Oct 31, 2024
If you want people to hire you, recommend you, or work with you, your insights alone won’t do it—you need to bring YOU into the mix.
Your expertise is a necessary and important part but there are two big problems in relying on that too much:
1. The value of content and insights and expertise alone is diminishing as the volume of content exponentially increases thanks to ChatGPT making it easy to churn out volumes of polished mediocrity.
2. Even if your insights ARE unique and compelling it gives people information, but that’s not enough to make them want to reach out to you or recommend you or hire you or promote you. It’s the connection they feel that sparks the desire for that.
Left-brain analytical thinking and right-brain emotional thinking are both equally important.
But right now the CPUs of our brain are by and large overloaded.
With too much information and inputs coming at us in every facet of our lives.
Heck, just my kid's school emails and attendance apps and lunch order apps and all the other things spin me into overdrive. (Pleeeez just give me a paper form anyway!)
The point is, that because of instances like this, we (and others) are making more emotional decisions. Then justifying by rationale.
So your epic thought leadership and unique insights need more than just good information - it needs YOU. Your personality, your stories, your essence and flavour.
I did a live virtual workshop yesterday (the first one this year!) because this IS possible to do without being overly complex, and i went through the “special sauce” of every single person on the call.
I absolutely loved it, one of my favourite things to do - because like snowflakes or thumbprints, we are all so different.
i bet you believe that, but it’s the leaning into this that is really so special and empowering.
And where the “confidence gold” lives!
it took me a few years to dial in mine (ironic given my own expertise in positioning, but this is very typical for multiple passionate experts and entrepreneurs).
and through that i developed process to help people get there way quicker than i did.
And the number one ingredient for that is “hunger to know”.
(because the determination to pursue it will follow!)
Hunger for clarity is a great place to start, and you’ll find the rest will gently reveal itself, and i promise you it’s worth the effort.
So be encouraged if you’re on the path to finding that clarity, and connection-factor, keep going, it’s with it!
